Design Overview & Tactical Role
The M60 was the undisputed armored backbone of the United States and NATO throughout the critical decades of the Cold War. Engineered to counter the Soviet T-54 and armed with the license-built 105 mm M68 rifled gun, the final M60A3 TTS (Tank Thermal Sight) variant gave US tank crews extraordinary day-and-night gunnery accuracy through smoke and darkness.
Combat History & Battle Records
Stationed along the Fulda Gap in Germany for over 30 years, the M60 family saw its triumphant swan song during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, where US Marine Corps M60A1s with ERA penetrated Kuwait City, outmatching Iraqi armor. Upgraded M60s remain in frontline service in Turkey, Taiwan, Egypt, and Israel.
