Design Overview & Tactical Role
Constructed on the venerable T-34 chassis by Uralmash in Sverdlovsk, the SU-100 was one of the most effective dedicated tank destroyers of World War II. Armed with the brilliant 100 mm D-10S naval-derived rifled cannon, its high-velocity shells could penetrate 125 mm of vertical armor plate at a range of 2,000 meters, capable of penetrating the front armor of German Tigers and Panthers from distance.
Combat History & Battle Records
Entering service in late 1944, the SU-100 earned high praise during the Battle of Lake Balaton in Hungary (March 1945), where massed SU-100 batteries shattered the 6th SS Panzer Army's final armored counter-offensive. Later exported globally, it fought in the 1956 Suez Crisis and 1967 Six-Day War with Egyptian forces.
