Design Overview & Tactical Role
The T-54/T-55 family is the most widely produced tank in human history, with up to 100,000 units manufactured across the USSR, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and China. Characterized by its low-slung dome-shaped cast turret and dependable 100 mm D-10T gun, the T-55 introduced PAZ NBC collective overpressure protection, making it the definitive early Cold War armored platform.
Combat History & Battle Records
Designed under Aleksandr Morozov in Kharkiv and Nizhny Tagil to replace the T-34-85, the T-54/55 fought across every continent: the Hungarian Revolution (1956), the Six-Day War (1967), the Yom Kippur War (1973), the Vietnam War (1975), and the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988). Decades later, modified variants remain in active combat globally.
