The Altay is Turkey's flagship national main battle tank program, designed to replace aging M48, M60, and early Leopard 1 tanks. Benefiting from technology transfer agreements with Hyundai Rotem (incorporating K2 chassis innovations), it is heavily customized with domestic Turkish subsystems, including Roketsan ballistic composite modular armor and the Aselsan AKKOR active defense suite.
Combat History & Battle Records
Named in honor of General Fahrettin Altay, hero of the Turkish War of Independence, the tank completed grueling army trials and officially delivered initial production models to the Turkish Armed Forces in April 2023 for frontline certification.
