Design Overview & Tactical Role
The M10 Wolverine (designated 3-inch Gun Motor Carriage M10) was the numerical mainstay of American Tank Destroyer battalions throughout World War II. Built on modified M4A2 and M4A3 Sherman hulls, it paired an open-topped pentagonal turret with the high-velocity 3-inch M7 anti-aircraft derived gun and sloped armor plates fitted with mounting bosses for add-on armor.
Combat History & Battle Records
Seeing combat in Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, and across Northwest Europe, the M10 formed the anti-tank backbone of Allied corps. Hundreds of M10s were converted by the British Army by mounting the superior 17-pounder gun, creating the famous 17pdr SP Achilles.
