Design Overview & Tactical Role
The M36 Jackson arrived in late 1944 to solve American armor's crisis against heavy German Panthers and Tigers. Armed with the immense 90 mm M3 anti-aircraft derived cannon, the Jackson gave US forces a tank destroyer capable of penetrating heavy German frontal armor from extended ranges.
Combat History & Battle Records
During the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, M36 crews from the 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalion engaged German heavy tanks at ranges exceeding 2,000 meters. The Jackson served with great distinction in the Korean War and enjoyed extraordinary longevity, remaining in active combat during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s.
