Design Overview & Tactical Role

The Pokpung-ho ('Storm Tiger') represents North Korea's most heavily customized armored development. Evolving from deep engineering analysis of T-72, T-80, and T-62 platforms, it features an enlarged six-road-wheel chassis and an elongated welded turret. Uniquely, it mounts dual surface-to-air missiles (MANPADS) and dual Bulsae-3 laser-guided anti-tank missiles on the turret roof to challenge hostile attack helicopters and armor.

Combat History & Battle Records

Developed during the 1990s and confirmed by international observers during Pyongyang military parades in 2010, it forms the elite armored fist of the Seoul Strike Division stationed near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
