Design Overview & Tactical Role
The PT-91 Twardy ('Hard' or 'Resilient') represents Poland's highly successful indigenous modernization of the Soviet T-72M1 design. It replaces older optics with the indigenous Drawa computerized fire control system, integrates the Obra laser warning suite, and features dense, gapless coverage of 394 ERAWA explosive reactive armor blocks designed to withstand anti-tank shaped charges and APFSDS sabot rounds.
Combat History & Battle Records
Developed by OBRUM and produced by Bumar-Łabędy in Gliwice, the PT-91 served as Poland's premier armored deterrent following the end of the Cold War and Poland's integration into NATO. In 2022–2023, Poland donated substantial numbers of PT-91s to Ukraine, where they proved robust and reliable in high-intensity combat operations.
