Design Overview & Tactical Role
The Sho't Kal ('Whip') was the masterful Israeli transformation of the British Centurion tank into an unstoppable desert battlewagon. Replacing the temperamental petrol Meteor engine with an American Continental diesel engine and Allison automatic transmission, the tank gained double the operational range and vastly superior reliability. Outfitted with the 105 mm Sharir gun, fire control computers, and Blazer ERA, it achieved combat immortality.
Combat History & Battle Records
During the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Lieutenant Colonel Avigdor Kahalani's 77th Tank Battalion of Sho't Kal tanks executed the heroic defense of the Golan Heights in the 'Valley of Tears', holding off over 500 Syrian T-55 and T-62 tanks while outnumbered nearly ten to one.
