The Type 99A (ZTZ-99A) is China's premier heavy armored fighting vehicle and the pride of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Force. Featuring an angular, arrow-shaped welded turret clad with FY-4 double-layer reactive armor tiles, it uniquely fields an active laser self-defense weapon (JD-3) that can blind hostile optics and missile laser guidance sensors. With a 1,500 hp engine and CH1000 hydraulic transmission, it matches NATO top speeds.
Combat History & Battle Records
Developed under Chief Designer Zhu Yusheng, the Type 99A debuted publicly at the 2015 Beijing Victory Day Parade. Representing the pinnacle of Chinese armored vehicle design, it is stationed with elite armored divisions guarding the northern and western strategic theatres.
