Design Overview & Tactical Role

The Zulfiqar 3 is the culmination of Iran's armored vehicle development program, blending design elements of the American M60 Patton chassis with the firepower of the Russian 125 mm smoothbore carousel autoloader and low-profile angular turret geometries reminiscent of the M1 Abrams.

Combat History & Battle Records

Named after the legendary sword of Ali, the Zulfiqar family was conceived by Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumzadeh to establish domestic armored capabilities in the wake of post-revolutionary sanctions. The Zulfiqar 3 entered operational service with the Islamic Republic of Iran Army (Artesh).
