Design Overview & Tactical Role
The FV214 Conqueror was Britain's answer to the Soviet heavy armor threat in post-war Europe. Built around the powerful 120 mm L1A1 gun, it was designed to provide long-range anti-tank overwatch for Centurion medium tanks. It introduced an advanced fire control system with a rotating commander's cupola that could independently lay the gun onto target while the gunner tracked.
Combat History & Battle Records
Stationed in West Germany with the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR), the Conqueror stood guard during the most tense moments of the Cold War until rendered obsolete by the arrival of the 105 mm L7-armed Centurion and the Chieftain.
