Design Overview & Tactical Role

Weighing nearly 72 metric tons, the Jagdtiger was the heaviest operational armored fighting vehicle produced in numbers during World War II. Armed with the immense 12.8 cm Pak 44 L/55 gun and shielded behind a monolithic 250 mm thick frontal casemate, it could destroy any Allied or Soviet tank across distances of more than 3,500 meters, far beyond the visual gunnery range of enemy tanks.

Combat History & Battle Records

Organized into heavy anti-tank battalions (s.Pz.Jg.Abt. 653 and 512, the latter commanded by Otto Carius), Jagdtigers fought in Operation Nordwind in Alsace and defended the Ruhr pocket, where their immense weight caused frequent mechanical breakdowns on ruined roads.
